Anna Frants’ “Personal Space #1” Opened at the Hermitage Center

New exhibition by CYLAND MediaArtLab founder Anna Frants entitled “Personal Space #1” opened on September 30, 2015 at the Youth Educational Center of the State Hermitage in St. Petersburg. “Personal Space #1” begins a series of exhibitions by the artists reflecting on the phenomenon of habituation and love for inanimate.

The real-time video installation developed by CYLAND for the exhibition are part fantasiy and part instinctive immersion bound by programming and robotics, that determine Anna Frants’ distinctive style. It meditates on the notion of ‘individual mystery’, as it was described by Vladimir Nabokov’s autobiography “Other Shores”.

Do the shadows cast by trees onto the park bench belong to you, if you come there every day? The paradox is that it seems they do, as you became acquainted to the place. You also unwittingly became the source that throws light. In contrast to the emotionless “cold” sun light, this light radiated by people is warm, irrational, and can be accurately analyzed or calculated.

The exhibition “Personal Space #1” was on display until October 7, 2015 at the Youth Educational Center of the State Hermitage (Palace Square, 6-8).
