This year the Maker Faire Rome – The European Edition will launch the new section dedicated entirely to art, curated by Valentino Catricalà. Included in the Maker Art are installations by CYLAND MediaArtLab artists Anna Frants, Elena Gubanova and Ivan Govorkov, Sergey Komarov and Alexey Grachev.
Maker Faire Rome is a large fair for inventions and innovation open to all forms of applied creativity, from serious and innovative ideas to more imaginative ones, from new technologies to traditional “know how” and handicraft. It displays inventions and projects on topics of design, electronics, digital handicraft, health and quality of life, art, drones, energy, sustainability, open source…
Art is a grand engine for raising awareness and for making an analysis of the vast changes that characterise our time. In particular, art that uses technology is not only important today for the world of culture, but for society in general. For over fifty years, artists have been experimenting, assembling and inventing new technologies. Their purpose is never the invention of technology in and of itself, but as a way to express their vision through technological experimentation, in this way, producing innovation.
There are many themes touched on by artists who use technology and that Maker Art proposes: in particular, environmental sustainability, global warming, the relationship between man and nature, the society of the image.
In words of Valentino Catricalà, Reflection on life by Anna Frants and The Enlightened One by Elena Gubanova and Ivan Govorkov represent two ways of reflecting on life and on the loss of our relationship with nature.
Another artwork at the Maker Faire exhibition that was produced by CYLAND artists will be Exaltation by Sergey Komarov and Alexey Grachev, an installation reflecting on streaming technologies and social media.
