The idea of the film was born after reading Vsevolod Pudovkin’s filmography that included the movie The End of St. Petersburg made in the 1920s. It was 1992, the time of Perestroika. The Greek myths have always provided opulent material for stories about a person falling apart from the diversity of temptations. The artist chooses the mythological figure of Icarus and creates a romantic performance-self-portrait.
Edward Shelganov was born in Leningrad in 1971. He started to make movies in 1992 togetherwith graduates of B. Yukhanov’s school, participated in various festivals of experimentalcinema, he received the “gold” medal at the international festival of experimental cinema inLuga. In 1992 he entered St. Petersburg State University of Cinema and Television on the courseof professor S. Aranovich and graduated in 1997. With his graduation work he participated in the“Festival of Festivals” 1997, in A.Sokurov’s program “Island” 1997 and with the selection offilm works in “Cinema-Phantom” 2000. At the present time he is working in video art.
