Interview with NECKO, Video Artist from the 12th CYFEST Program

CYLAND video archive curator Victoriya Ilyushkina spoke with NECKO, a video artist who participated in the 12th CYFEST Personal Identity video program (premiered at the Made in NY Media Center BY IFP, December 2018). Check the interview about NECKO’s projects below:

Necko artist came from the HIP HOP and graffiti movement in Madrid in the 1990s,he extends the projects with the artistic team of Cirque du Soleil and Ferran Adriá in Heart Ibiza, now he is closer to the world of biology and artificial intelligence, leading him to develop the multimedia Transhumanity Project. Besides being one of the pioneers, is one of the leading exponents of the “painting / projection-mapping” technique he combines traditional technology and plastic arts (traditional painting, post  graffiti, cartography, augmented reality, virtual reality, 3D design, motion graphics, etc) in his productions.

His project “Cellular automatons”- are one of the clearest examples in the search for intelligence, with functional and reasoning capacities similar to those of organic life, opening up the possibility that a computational organism has evolved as organic life has done. The artist has applied cellular automatons to his works, creating an interaction between organic life, the artist, and synthetic life, cellular automatons.

The research process of some of his projects brings Necko closer to the world of biology and artificial intelligence, leading him to develop the Transhumanity Project.

The artist has applied cellular automatons to his works, creating an interaction between organic life, the artist, and synthetic life, cellular automatons. A cellular automaton is a mathematical model for a dynamic system composed of a set of cells that acquire different states or values. These states are altered from one instant to another depending on the state of the contiguous cells.
