Sergey Kuryokhin Contemporary Art Award ceremony took place at the Kamenny Island Theatre in St. Petersburg.

CYLAND began their annual festival in 2007, in St. Petersburg, Russia – CYFEST (formerly, Cyberfest). Over the following editions, this event grew to be housed across the city’s most prestigious institutions. The festival promotes the emergence of new forms of art and high technology interactions, developing professional connections between artists, curators, engineers and programmers around the world and exposing wide audiences to the works in the field of robotics, video art, sound art and net art.

Throughout its history, the CYFEST Festival main concerns were to inspect the dialog between new and traditional visual languages and to try to show the technological achievements via artistic conversion.

The 11th annual CYFEST presented its projects in Venice (IT), Beijing (China), Caserta (IT), New York (USA), and St. Petersburg (Russia) in 2017/2018.

One of the goals for the Art Award is finding and supporting promising artists, curators  and musicians, to raise the status of contemporary art and to integrate it in the international cultural  life. Sergey Kuryokhin Contemporary Art Award is specifically focused on the principles of the «Popular  Mechanics»: provocation, performance, improvisation and unexpectedness. Sergey Kuryokhin Contemporary Art Award commemorates the synthesis of various forms of art, the search for new meanings and the  revolutionary courage – the only kind that can change the world.
