Yuri Vassiliev
Kaliningrad-based artist, born in Kingisepp in 1950, studied at the Leningrad Art College; Honored Artist of Russia.
The works are in private and public collections, including the State Russian Museum (St. Petersburg, Russia), Museum of Contemporary Art «KIASMA» (Helsinki, Finland). Аuthor of the Russian Red project since 2000, participant of the Human Project, special project of 1st Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art, as well as a number of exhibitions: Davaj, Davaj in 2002 (Postfuramt, Berlin, Germany), MAK Vienna (Austria)
The artist handles with one of the most well-spread stereotypes of collective consciousness, related to perception of image and the history of Russia in the 20th century, both mythological and ideological – totality of red. The project is a free unfinished sequence of motives and several exhibitions of the author, brought together by the common motto, theme and some structural and technical issues. The «Russian Red» project has been carried out since 2001 and was presented at more than 50 Russian and international exhibitions.
